Global Information Technology Awards Foundation Pays Tribute to Individuals and Organizations that Use Information Technology to Benefit Society

Sendmail, Inc. the leading provider of reliable and secure email and messaging infrastructures, today announced that they have been recognized as a 2010 Laureate and finalist by the Computerworld Honors Program, for the case study: "Email Backbone Modernization and Smart Appliances" featuring Sendmail customer, Miele. This year's Honorees were commemorated during the 22nd Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards Evening on June 7, 2010 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. For over two decades, Computerworld Honors has acknowledged those individuals and organizations that have used information technology to benefit society.

"We are honored to be recognized as a Laureate and finalist by Computerworld for our work on the Miele project," said Donald Massaro, CEO of Sendmail, Inc. "Today more than ever, businesses rely on email for critical, transactional-oriented business operations and this project further proves the need for a flexible core messaging backbone infrastructure to address today's messaging application needs."

"Email Backbone Modernization and Smart Appliances" outlines how Sendmail developed Sentrion Message Processors to help businesses architect smart and flexible email messaging infrastructures. It features Miele, the world's largest family-owned and operated appliance company, and their RemoteVision Program. With RemoteVision, Miele doesn't have to wait for customers to call with a possible fault. Instead, they're proactively alerted of issues by the smart appliance via email, and Miele can contact the customers with critical information about the fault which they may or may not know they're experiencing. An internal email backbone based on Sendmail Sentrion Message Processors manages the message processing for RemoteVision appliances.

The innovative RemoteVision technology Miele deployed on its smart appliances with the help of the Sendmail Sentrion Message Processors has helped customers around the globe save time and money, shifting the service paradigm forever.

Each year, members of the Chairmen's Committee, a group of 100 Chairman/CEOs of global technology companies, nominates individuals and organizations around the world whose visionary applications of information technology promotes positive social and economic progress. Independent of the Laureate recognition, the Computerworld Honors Program also annually presents its Leadership Awards, each designed to honor the extraordinary achievements of selected individuals whose positive contributions to the IT revolution have left an indelible mark on the world.

"Each Laureate and Winner/Finalist selected for this honor understands the importance of using one's resources and technical prowess to benefit one's fellow man," said Bob Carrigan, chairman of the Computerworld Honors Program Chairmen's Committee and CEO of IDG Communications Worldwide. "Each year, the Computerworld Honors Program seeks to recognize organizations from a variety of sectors for their ongoing efforts to utilize technology in order to befit society and we are proud to provide a platform to publicly acknowledge these contributions."
