The “Staycation” was the word for budget minded travelers in 2009, but in 2010 families are hitting the road again. People who put off traveling last summer are once again getting out and visiting extended family and traveling to nearby vacation favorites. But while the Staycation remains in the rear view mirror, travelers continue to demand and seek bargain hotel deals. Below are some of Americans favorite vacations hotspots and places to find a deal.
The Florida Gulf Coast is within a 6 hour drive for nearly 90 million Americans. One of the hottest spots to travel is Destin, a town that not so long ago was known as the “Luckiest Town in America”. The emerald green waters and soft sandy beaches of Destin have long attracted tourists and this year deals can be found with a little research and effort. The Sandestin community near 30-A, just east of Destin, is also planning some special to attract vacationers.
If you want to get away from the beaches and head to the mountains instead, then Steamboat Springs and Estes Park Colorado are ideal value locals this summer. There are few places more beautiful than the National Parks and the valley outside Steamboat. Mountain biking, horseback riding, and river rafting are all nearby attractions. There are also several full service Dude Ranches in the valley. John Wayne never had it so good.
Virginia Beach, Virginia is one of the best summer spots for a golfing vacation. And while the golfers are on the links there is plenty to do for the rest of the family. The Boardwalk Resort and Villas is an oceanfront resort located right at the heart of the Virginia Beach oceanfront. You can walk out the hotel and you're on the beach. The resort is one of the newest on the beach and is a great location to all your oceanfront needs. There are many options along the beachwalk. Try your luck with a day trip fishing just off the coast also.
The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is one of the more beautiful regions in the country. Charlevoix, Grand Harbor, and Petosky are great family vacation towns where deals can be found this summer. Sit on the harbor in Charlevoix and watch the sailboats coming and going into Lake Michigan. There are many deals out there in the long term rental market. Also, both Grand Harbor and Petosky have wonderful walking districts where one can window shop in the pleasant Michigan summer climate. Kilwin’s Ice cream is a local’s favorite to enjoy after a busy day of boating, golfing, or shopping.
So this summer, leave the Staycation behind in 2009 and get out there and travel. Hotel and resort deals abound for the traveler who does a little research.
