The I've Got Your Backs Foundation is holding youth football clinics in Marshall and Battle Creek from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 19 and July 20 for kids ages 8 through 9th grade.

The July 19 camp will be held at the Marshall High School Football Field. The July 20 camp will be at the Harper Creek High School Football Field. The same program will be run both days. Pre-registration is encouraged. Proceeds will benefit the I've Got Your Backs Foundation's many youth-related programs.

Directed by long-time, experienced coaches Tom Sharpley, Joe Heppner and Shawn Loughrige, the camp also will include instruction by many current and past Division 1 and Division 2 football players as well as members of the Battle Creek Blaze professional football team. MHSAA record-breaking Harper Creek quarterback Nate Smith will be at the camp to provide skill training along with former High School All -American and former starting Michigan State quarterback Ryan Van Dyke. Josh Heppner, a former Marshall High School standout and Ferris State team captain, now coach of Troy Athens High School, and some his staff will also lead instruction. Harper Creek High School Football Coach Ed Greenman will be at the July 20 Harper Creek clinic.

Evan Sharpley, a 2005 Marshall High School graduate, teammate of Isaac Loughrige and former quarterback at Notre Dame, said that it is a blessing to be a part of planning the football camp.

He said that the clinic is structured in a way to effectively teach fundamentals by using fun and energized drills.
"I used these same drills the past four summers while working with aspiring young football players at Notre Dame's football camp," Sharpley said. "We have also been able to put together a great team of instructors who love working with kids and love football, like my friend and long-time teammate Isaac Loughrige. As a team, we will emphasize that being a good teammate and a good person is someone who has got others backs through good and bad times, both on and off the football field."

The I've Got Your Backs Foundation was established last year in memory of Isaac Loughrige, a Marshall High School graduate and former football standout, 2006 team captain and MVP who also played at Central Michigan University on the former MAC and Motor City Bowl Championship team under new Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly . Isaac passed away in October after complications from the H1N1 virus.

The foundation helps to fund and implement programs for youth in the area because working with kids was one of Isaac's many passions.

Registration for the football camp is $30 per person before July 1; $40 after July 1. The fee includes a t-shirt, beverages and lunch.

Camp sponsors include Albion Motors Ford Mercury Inc., Crossroads Church & Ministries, Harbinger Financial Group (Edward Cazal), HBC Contracting, Hungry Howie's Pizza, JW Public Relations, Nicole Christian Photography, Purpose Filled Coaching, Stay Sharp Training and Sunshine Toyota.
