New research from FrontPoint Security, the leader in next-generation,wireless security systems, shows that 88% of Americans worry about their homes getting burglarized, yet only 22% have a home alarm system. The independent national omnibus survey was conducted by Russell Research, one of the industry’s top custom market research firms.

Additional survey results show that 65% of Americans are aware that most home alarm systems can be defeated by cutting the phone line, which may be a factor in their decision not to purchase a system even though they are worried about home invasion.

“Over 90% of existing home security systems depend on the phone line to connect with the monitoring center,” said Peter Rogers, COO of FrontPoint Security. “If a burglar cuts the outside phone line, then these systems can’t send an alert to the alarm company, leaving the home susceptible to burglary and other crimes.”

FrontPoint’s wireless home alarm systems operate over a cellular network and cannot be disabled by cutting an outdoor phone wire, making them safer than traditional systems. Each FrontPoint system has its own standalone cellular device that runs over a GSM digital cellular platform – the same platform used by today’s major cellular telephone companies – but customers do not need to own a cell phone in order to use the system. FrontPoint’s GE Security equipment also has built-in jam detection to further deter burglary attempts.

“Through this research, we’ve learned that consumers often know about the vulnerability of traditional alarm systems and this has impacted their decision not to install a system in their home,” Rogers continued. “At FrontPoint, we’re trying to educate consumers so they know that there are other options like cellular-only systems that can keep their home and family safe.”

FrontPoint Security also differs from traditional alarm companies as its systems are do-it-yourself and can be installed by many customers in about 30 minutes. Customers can also access their system through the company’s iPhone, Blackberry and Android apps, allowing them to arm and disarm the system, watch video clips, create and change user accounts, and view recent alarm activity from their cell phone at anytime, from anywhere.
