Missoula, MT (PRWEB) June 6, 2010
Pipestone Mountaineering, 129 West Front Street, will be closing its doors for good this summer. Pipestone has already begun its Store Closing Sale. Pipestone will maintain its normal hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m, Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will be the biggest sale in Pipestone Mountaineering history, as well as its last.
The owner of Pipestone Mountaineering, Jay Allen, spoke candidly about his decision to close the Missoula store. “This is largely about the economy. The economic downturn has hurt us, particularly in the Missoula market. Add to that a national big-box retailer doing a major expansion in Montana by doubling the size of its store in Missoula and opening a brand new store in Bozeman.”
“We poured our hearts into this store. We had a great staff, solid product mix and a stellar location. We just never saw a turnaround in sales after the economy slumped. It's pretty straightforward. Add more competition to a depressed economy and the outlook did not look good. All this lead us to the painful decision to close the Pipestone location.”
Pipestone Mountaineering opened its store in Missoula in 1994 and was known as a great place to find outdoor gear and clothing from local experts in the field. “We want to thank our customers and all the staff that have made Pipestone a success for all these years,” Allen said. “I hope that our customers will continue to support the locally owned businesses that make Missoula a special place.”
Jay Allen is the owner of four outdoor retail stores in Montana: Northern Lights Trading Company, Northern Lights Boat Barn, Barrel Mountaineering and Pipestone Mountaineering. Northern Lights also has a successful E-Commerce website located at http://www.NorthernLightsTrading.com.
