New York, NY (PRWEB) June 7, 2010
Atticus Music Group is excited to announce the collaboration of dance and film composer Cory Gabel with famed choreographer and dancer Lawrence Pech. The two will create an original dance piece for the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) 2010 Summer Intensive. ABT is a national ballet company that tours the United States annually, striving to ensure that the traditions of dance are sustained and carried on, through training, education, exposure and celebration.
The new work will be presented at the Austin, Texas regional intensive. The program will run from July 11 to August 6, 2010, and will culminate in a final performance of ABT repertory and new works, including the new piece choreographed by Pech and composed by Gabel.
Lawrence Pech has been with the American Ballet Theater since 1980, at the personal invitation of Mikhail Baryshnikov. For the next six years, Mr. Pech worked with such choreographers as George Balanchine, Martha Graham, Agnes de Mille and Twyla Tharp, and danced with such greats as Baryshnikov, Ivan Nagy, Cynthia Gregory and Martine Van Hamel. He has been Principal dancer in the San Francisco Ballet, and he is the current Ballet Master and Resident Choreographer for the San Francisco Opera. To date, Pech has choreographed over 55 ballets, 45 musicals, 42 operas and numerous self-produced evenings of original music, dance and theater. His love of choreography and the music that inspires it brought Pech to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to finish his composition degree (BM) in 2005, graduating with honors.
“It is an honor to be invited to collaborate with such an accomplished and talented choreographer as Larry Pech,” says Gabel. “His own training and experience in music composition makes it even more flattering to me. With Mr. Pech’s artistry I’m sure the finished performance will be something we’ll both be incredibly proud of.”
Early drafts and concepts of the piece are developing in the style of Gabel's most recent period of work, which he unofficially (and somewhat tongue-in-cheek) refers to as his "industrial-orchestral period". That style has been featured in Gabel's last 2 major pieces for dance theater, The Casket Girls - A Modern Gothic Ballet and Museum Piece.
