RTI Electronics (RTIE), a leading provider of value-added and application specific passive electronic components, has been acquired by the private equity firm Shackleton Equity Partners. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

Its audio power conditioners are sold under the brand name Running Springs Audio. RTI Electronics’ thermistors are used for both in-rush current limiting (i.e., Surge-Gard) as well as temperature measurement and control (e.g. automotive, medical, telecomm, household appliances, and HVAC). Its capacitors are used to smooth and filter the output of power supplies; applications include industrial, high-power lighting and telecommunications. Its magnetic inductors and transformers are used in the lighting, biomedical, aerospace, industrial, military, and communications industries. RSA provides the #1 audio power supplies and cables for professional musicians and concert venues.
The acquisition of RTI Electronics by Shackleton is met with excitement by its customers and suppliers. “Shackleton’s commitment to investing in RTI’s product quality, R&D, sales and marketing, and customer service is exactly what our business needs,” said Jonathan Smith, who will be continuing with the business as its new CEO.
RTI Electronics’s current customers include companies such as Flextronics, B/E Aerospace, Philips, and Sager Electronics. “The success of RTI Electronics’ products with some of the best names in the electronics industry definitely attracted us to this acquisition,” said Mark Schelbert, Managing Partner of Shackleton Equity Partners. “RTI provides products that companies like Flextronics and B/E Aerospace trust in mission critical applications. That demonstrates the quality of the RTI components and team. We expect these wins will allow RTI to continue to draw interest from potential customers who wish to design-in highly functional components.”
RTI Electronics will continue to be located in Anaheim, CA and will honor the warranty and contracts of the existing customers and focus on enhancing customer support.
