New York (PRWEB) June 6, 2010
Eric Pelka has announced the release of his book, My Diary. In this work, Pelka merges art and life--letting them flow into each other. Color and expression burst from each page, giving insights into the private world of artist Eric Pelka, and into our own world as well.
Eric has exhibited in galleries in Italy, Japan, and the United States, and was part of a multimedia benefit for the New York Foundation of the Arts (NYFA) in 2004. His everyday life in New York City and its nuances also provides the inspiration behind My Diary.
“The city is filled with vast amounts of energy,” Eric says, “energy generated not only by the inhabitants, but also by the never-ending chain of events that cause us all to cross paths with so many different people. My art not only reflects on these constrained conditions created by artificial constructs, but also considers that I must integrate this with the harmony and tranquility I experience in nature in order to lead a full and meaningful life.”
In order to help others lead a full, joyful life, Eric has partnered with City Harvest, a food rescue organization with this book. By purchasing “My Diary” through Amazon.com or online subscription, 15% of each sale will be donated to charity.
The creative process “involves recognizing how much some people suffer in the city, and doing what I can to make things better,” Eric believes. “In the barrage of so many action filled moments and experiences, we have the choice to either confront life's challenges directly or to filter out information we do not want to enter our minds. For me, acknowledging people who suffer is far more important than filtering them out.”
“I create art about New York City and the nature by which it is encompassed, inspired by the fact that so much is happening and can be absorbed in any given moment. I capture as much as I can of this interaction and offer the results to you in My Diary.”
"I live to create fantastical realities, to mix nature with neon abstraction. Eric Pelka takes me to a world where I find comfort. I feel at home in his paintings.” -- Artie Hach. Visual Director, Patricia Field, New York, NY
"Eric captures New York City in a serious, but playful way in his jewel like art book My Diary. Living in California now, I really get a sense of the New York I know and love, while looking at Eric's bold, yet affectionate, interpretations of my favorite city!" -- Nancy Vicknair, Arts Publicist, San Francisco, CA
