Averde Health signs Exempla Healthcare to expanding Denver network and prepares for sale of next generation Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHP’s) to employers.

Averde Health (http://www.averdehealth.com), a pioneer with a revolutionary model for Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHP’s), announces that they recently signed Exempla Healthcare to their rapidly expanding network in Denver, CO. Exempla Healthcare, which includes three hospitals, Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, becomes the third hospital system in Denver to join Averde’s network in the last several months giving Averde a large percentage of hospital beds under contract. Exempla’s Physician Network, which consists of 170 physicians, is also part of the new contract.

“We are very pleased to have Exempla join our expanding network in Colorado,” said Averde’s CEO Tom Policelli. “We continue to expand in Colorado and have the network size and strength needed to provide employers an alternative to large carriers.” Debbie Welle-Powell, Vice President Payer Strategies and Government Affairs at Exempla agreed. “With healthcare reform, Exempla Healthcare is pleased to partner with Averde on an array of unique products that offer our patients greater engagement and connection to their healthcare issues.”

Averde’s network product is available now to individuals and beginning August 1, 2010 to self-insured employers that offer Consumer Directed Health Plans with high deductibles. High deductible plans are increasingly used by employers to offset the high cost of medical benefits by shifting costs to employees. This brings unintended consequences to doctors and hospitals as they chase patients for payments and write off an increasing amount of bad debt. In Averde’s revolutionary payment model, providers get paid both patient and plan liability at the full contracted rate, net of copays, if clean claims are submitted within 60 days. Averde, not the provider, then collects the member’s coinsurance and deductibles from the member. This takes doctors and hospitals out of the collections business and lets them focus on practicing medicine.

In addition, Averde members get peace of mind that they can seek medical care knowing they have a strong financial safety net and do not have to come up with large deductibles at the point of service. Averde also reduces the confusing blizzard of paperwork and delays that come with these types of plans as doctors, payors and consumers sort out who owes what to whom. “This drives even more costs out of the system and allows us to deliver a superior product at a price that employers and consumers clearly find compelling. We think the Colorado business community needs more choice and more competition in health benefits providers,” declared Policelli. “We’re here to provide that.”
