Data from thousands of endurance athletes confirms that compression clothing has a significant impact on athletic performance.
Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 9, 2010
A new study by Zensah Research has found that lower leg compression sleeves has a significant impact on a runners performance, improving running economy and running efficiency. The study also found that calf compression sleeves do have an effect on running mechanics by making the calf a “stiffer spring” thereby reducing ground contact time and improving efficiency.
Harvard University graduate, and endurance competitor, Eric LaHaie said, “I don’t travel without Zensah compression socks. The compression leg sleeves give me support for mountain marathons.” Eric has competed in such races as the Gobi March, a 150 mile race across the Gobi Desert in China.
Over the past 6 years Zensah Research has examined the effects of compression clothing and specifically lower leg compression sleeves and their effect on athletic performance and recovery. The study was done in the perfect lab, the great outdoors. Athletes from ultra runners to elite triathletes tested compression clothing over thousands of miles, and hours and over variable conditions.
“From the data we collected we found what many studies have found in the past, compression clothing does improve athletic performance” stated company spokesman Ryan Oliver. "It was very important that the athletes be tested in real world environments. Running on a treadmill for 4 minutes, in a controlled lab, at a university is ineffective. We were committed to do a methodical study with a large data pool, and that is exactly what we did.”
Athletes found they could go longer wearing either compression leg sleeves or compression socks.
Recovery time was significantly reduced
Runners found less tightness in their calves after endurance runs, and improvement in ailments such as
shin splints, and tendinitis.
"Overall, with these compressive sleeves and the level of compression that they exert, they have a significant effect on a runners performance." Oliver continued. Marcela Miramontes an elite triathlete from Mexico said, “Compression leg sleeves have been a life saver. My legs are no longer swollen when I travel, and I can say that my performances have improved in my races”
Ultra Runner Dane Raushenbeg a graduate of Penn State University, and ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks said “with my constant travel and race schedule, I need to recover quickly and efficiently as possible. Zensah’s® compression sleeves help put me back where I need to be - in the competition.”
