The British Computer Society (BCS) has been urging schools to take advantage of Harnessing Technology Grants to improve their ICT facilities. In response, storage specialist Action Storage has announced details of how it can help schools keep their new laptops safe and recharged throughout the day.

The Harnessing Technology Grant provides schools with funding for ICT related capital expenditure, such as software upgrades and new laptops. For keeping new laptops purchased through the scheme safe, Action Storage can supply schools with a range of laptop trolleys, safe charge lockers and laptop storage lockers.

Action Storage’s laptop trolleys provide secure, mobile storage for up to 32 laptops. Mounted on durable castor wheels, the trolleys can be used to quickly move the laptops to wherever they’re needed in the school.

Thanks to the trolley’s internal power management system, teachers needn’t worry about laptop batteries dying in the middle of a lesson. When plugged into the mains, the trolley will recharge stored laptops so they’re ready for use. The trolley’s power management is inaccessible through the front doors, making it safe for pupils to remove and replace laptops on their own.

Different versions of the laptop trolley are available for storing laptops either vertically or horizontally on pullout trays. And with laptop theft always a problem for schools, the laptop trolleys are fitted with a very secure dual-point locking mechanism to ensure laptops are safely locked away when not in use.

Action Storage also supplies safe charge lockers for IT labs or any classrooms where the laptops are used regularly. These lockers are also fitted with charging elements for topping up laptop batteries in between lessons and overnight. Models are available with 5, 10 or 15 compartments and high gauge steel doors for keeping laptops securely stored.

Standard laptop storage lockers, without charging elements, are also available for storing up to 15 laptops. The lockers can be fitted with a single door or 15 individual doors for each compartment. 10 door laptop storage lockers are also available.

The BCS’s campaign to encourage more schools to take advantage of Harnessing Technology Grants comes at a time when school budgets are becoming squeezed. Consequently, it’s important for schools to take advantage of the grants whilst they can and apply for funding through their local authority.

Further information on Action Storage’s other school storage products, including cycle shelters, cloakroom benches and eXtreme® plastic lockers, can be found on its website. All public sector organisations can place orders on credit, and any orders placed online receive a 5% discount.
