As Brazil’s economy continues to power forward and the country gears up for hosting major international sporting events in the coming years, Luxury Latin America is expanding its coverage of Brazil’s upscale travel options.

Brazil has not attracted many luxury travelers from North America in recent decades, but the tide is starting to turn. As more international business executives visit the country, the hotels in Sao Paulo are improving to meet their needs. High-end tourists are also stepping up visits to Rio de Janeiro—a city that will host many of the World Cup games in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. Some are tentatively venturing beyond to the beaches and nature reserves.

“Brazil still has some major hurdles to overcome in terms of safety perception and hotels that are worthy of rates that are some of the highest in South America,” says Timothy Scott, Editor of Luxury Latin America. “With one of the most vibrant cultures and most of the best beaches on the continent, however, we believe the fast-rising economy and the necessity to build up for the World Cup and Olympics will spur significant luxury travel improvements in the coming years.”

Michael Sommers, author of "Moon Handbook Brazil," says the combination of European hotel chain investment and the rise of upscale boutique hotels means that there are now more than just a few scattered hotels up to international 5-star standards. There is also now a concerted effort to promote Brazil as a high-end travel spot. “For the first time ever, in conjunction with the new Brazilian Luxury Travel Association (BLTA), the government is promoting the country as a luxury travel destination, placing particular emphasis on the growing eco-luxury market.”

Luxury Latin America is following this trend of Brazil moving from mostly domestic tourism demand to more international demand and is adding detailed reviews of new and revamped luxury hotels in Brazil that are likely to please well-traveled visitors from North America and Europe. As luxury tours are launched that cater to wealthy clients who want to go beyond the typical package tours, writers will be reviewing the options in detail from a first-person perspective.

Luxury Latin America is the only content website covering upscale travel in Mexico, Central America, and South America.
