America! There is a dangerously undocumented medical condition affecting thousands of our citizens each year!
Symptoms include revving engines, crumpling metal, and jumping at the chance to drive into a knock-down, drag-out melee before a live audience. The condition, commonly known as “DERBY MADNESS,” is chronicled in DuMedia Lighthouse’s documentary film “DERBY MADNESS! ® The Movie”, which will air on FamilyNet Television on Friday, June 11, Wednesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 15 at 9 PM EST.
Nashville-based filmmakers John Dudley and William Middleton spent a year following promoter Mike Weatherford, a Paris, TN, native, and his group of officials as they traveled to various small towns in western Tennessee and Kentucky for the Derby Madness® demolition derby competitions. Weatherford explains the universal appeal of these events: "It's something that everybody wishes they could do! How many times have you been in traffic and you wanted to take your car and just smash the other car because they cut in front of you?”
The documentary movie also features Bill Reagor, Max Parrish, Wes Gargus, and many other participants in the Derby Madness® events. Co-director Middleton says, “I think the movie captures a real part of the American culture – just a real down-to-earth element in people. It's a movie not just about car crashes, but about the drivers, pit crews, and organizers of these events.”
Dudley agrees, stressing the emphasis on local drivers and officials: “We've put together some very compelling footage of what goes on behind-the-scenes in the dramatic world of demolition derbies. DuMedia Lighthouse is excited to work with our sponsor, the DEMOLITION DERBY LEAGUE, and FamilyNet Television to bring “DERBY MADNESS! The Movie” to families across America.”
