Emplicity PEO Services provider recently collected 1,565 pounds of food and toiletries to benefit the Orange County Rescue Mission. The food and necessary items come at a time when the mission and local residents are having resources stretched to the breaking point.

"Emplicity specializes in solving major problems for businesses, so we knew we could go a long way toward relieving the pressing hunger problem Orange County is facing in the current recession," said Vic Tanon of Emplicity.

Emplicity announced their food drive earlier this spring, then collected donations at their corporate office in Irvine. Food began arriving by the car load, soon totaling a major donation of more than 1,500 pounds.

Donations mostly consist of non-perishable and canned foods, with clothing and toiletries necessary for daily life. These are the items food pantries most often need and seem to be constantly out of.

"The pressure on food pantries is just staggering. That's especially true here in Orange County where some have experienced long-term unemployment. Emplicity feels it is up to us to use our expertise in organizing people and making a significant donation to the Orange County Rescue Mission," Tanon said.

Those benefiting from the Missions' work are not only the traditional poor, but formerly middle class residents who have hit hard times due to wide spread layoffs in the area.

"You'll see a street person hand a food item to a family in an SUV. It's sobering to realize people from all walks of life are having a hard time finding enough to eat. I hope other businesses will step up and help out, too," Tanon said.

Emplicity PEO Services and Human Resources Outsourcing provides employee management services for businesses and organizations. The firm does everything from hiring to training while making sure government requirements are fulfilled.

Emplicity relives the need for businesses to have a human resources department in-house.

"You've got to have reliable systems and great people to provide the service we do, so it only made sense that the Emplicity team could organize a major food drive for the Mission. We are delighted the drive turned out so well," Tanon said.
