The Leg Wrap™ consists of three straps that attach to the user’s leg in three places - the top of the upper thigh, above the knee and above the ankle - and two hand holds, which eliminate the need to tug on clothing and provide additional control over the leg. The legs are moved by grasping one or both hand holds by the hand or by hooking the arm through a hand hold. Matthew Magnifico, Project Manager for Maddak Inc., says “The device was developed to help people suffering from spinal cord injury or stroke, who tend to have weak triceps and biceps, by providing extra leverage in moving an otherwise very heavy and immobile limb.”
Paula Bennett, a Senior Occupational Therapy Aid and the inventor of the Leg Wrap™, added “The Leg Wrap™ is intended to remain on the leg throughout the day to provide assistance in performing daily activities. Many people first use it at a hospital or rehabilitation center and two to three years later tell us they are still using it; saying it makes life a lot easier and gives them better control of their legs. They tell stories about using it for transfers to and from locations as simple as wheelchairs, cars and bathroom settings as well as for more extreme activities such as four wheeling, boating or riding a tractor.”
The Leg Wrap™ Positioning Aid, item 70418-0000, is one-size-fits-all and has a suggested retail price of $29.95.
