Today BEEcube announces the availability of a special version of BEEcube Platform Studio™ (BPS) productivity software free to all universities worldwide, BPS-Lite™. BPS-Lite software provides an accelerated design flow dramatically easing the use of Xilinx FPGAs and making FPGA design more accessible to developers, students, and academic researchers.
The BEEcube Platform Studio (BPS) is a hardware/software co-development environment built on the MathWorks™ Simulink® framework and the Embedded Development Kit (EDK) from Xilinx. With BPS, users specify their desired system functionality with a combination of convenient block-diagram level descriptions and software modules. BPS provides automatic generation of all platform specific hardware interfaces and corresponding software drivers. Months of engineering tasks to convert complex digital communications and other algorithms to implementation can be achieved with BPS in a matter of days, all without the user requiring low level FPGA implementation details, such as high speed I/O interfaces, timing closure, HW/SW interfaces, and IP integration issues.
BPS provides a solution that scales from single-FPGA boards to highly complex systems with 10's to even 100's of FPGAs. Free BPS-Lite software is now available for use on the Xilinx XUPV5-LX110T a single FPGA platform optimized for teaching and research purposes. BPS can also be used to develop software for applications for BEEcube's BEE3 high-end four FPGA system, or for combinations of FPGAs platforms, including clusters of multiple BEE3s. Designs developed and verified at one platform level can easily move to higher performance systems.
BEEcube is a spin out from UC Berkeley, where the founders conducted decades of leading research on the FPGA-based Berkeley Emulation Engine (BEE) platforms and development environments. BEEcube was formed to produce and market high-end FPGA platforms for real-time system prototyping and computation acceleration. Now BEEcube is giving back to the academic research community by supplying the single-FPGA BPS software, BPS-Lite, free of charge to universities.
