”We had an amazing time doing the Britain’s Got Personality roadshows and have uncovered some genuine raw talent. I wish Teresa, and all the contestants, luck for their future.”

Opera singer, Teresa De Roberto, 18 from Birmingham, has been voted as the top new talent act of 2010 in a national competition.
She has succeeded her bid to put Birmingham on the map as the most talented city in the UK.
Having beaten 180 acts from across the UK, Teresa was voted the winner by an online vote. She was voted in to the final of the national competition, run by hotels group Best Western, last week.
She then went head to head with seven other acts including two dance acts also from Birmingham, breakdancers Jaime Bell and Curtis Stanley, to win the chance of a talent contract with a top UK agency.
The competition, called Britain’s got Personality, has been running for the past two months with heats in York, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Cardiff and London. A wide variety of solo and group performances took part, with singing, dancing, magic, martial arts, fire spinning, and even an escape artist.
Teresa performed at the Birmingham heat of the roadshow on 24 April to the biggest crowd of the competition. Teresa then received a staggering number of votes to become a finalist in the competition and has now been voted the winner, with a whopping 5,872 votes!
Teresa is a naturally talented singer who has been urged by friends and family to pursue a more serious interest in singing after beginning with a part in the school choir for a Christmas concert. Opera singing isn’t as popular as it once was and Teresa has her Italian heritage to thank for the push in the classic direction.
Teresa said: “I can’t believe I have won! My main aim is just to show young, aspiring opera singers that it is OK to be proud of it, and to break the stereotype for everybody else; I can’t believe I can do this now! Everyone was brilliant so I just didn’t expect to win, but I’m so excited for what is to come now!”
For the competition Teresa sung ‘The Impossible Dream’ and was very pleased with her performance on the day.
Teresa’s mother acts as manager, booking Teresa into many competitions and events. Teresa is also heavily committed to charity work for the ‘Help the Heroes’ foundation.
Tim Wade, head of marketing for Best Western added: ”We had an amazing time doing the Britain’s Got Personality roadshows and have uncovered some genuine raw talent. I wish Teresa, and all the contestants, luck for their future.”
