San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) June 16, 2010
Long-time education leader Molly Huffman has been appointed as the new head of school at Children’s Day School, an independent co-educational day school for children in preschool through eighth grade, effective July 1, 2010. She will replace outgoing head Rick Ackerly who is relocating to the Midwest.
Ms Huffman was most recently head of The Children’s School in La Jolla, California. The Children’s School and Children’s Day School have similar educational philosophies rooted in the work of educators such as John Dewey and Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Emilia schools in Italy. Both schools see intellectual, emotional and social growth as interdependent and believe that children thrive when the values of the school and the values of the family are aligned.
“I am honored and delighted to join Children’s Day School,” stated Ms. Huffman. “The school’s diverse student population and down-to-earth community make it a unique learning environment, and its plans for expansion and growth offer an exciting opportunity to be part of a 21st century school of excellence.”
With more than 20 years of experience in independent school education, Ms. Huffman brings an impressive level of educational leadership to Children’s Day School. Prior to The Children’s School, she was the Head of School at Touchstone School in Lake Oswego, Oregon and Assistant Head and Division Head at the French American International School in Portland, Oregon. Ms. Huffman holds a B.A. from Scripps College and a master’s of public/educational administration from Lewis & Clark College, as well as teaching and administrative credentials from the State of Oregon.
Ms. Huffman joins Children’s Day School during a time of facilities expansion and student population growth. She has extensive experience in leading growing institutions.
“Molly’s appointment concludes an exhaustive national search that brought us a field of truly extraordinary candidates,” said Marianne Evans, chair of the search committee. “As a growing school, we will benefit from Molly’s proven ability to advance an institution to the next level.”
“We’re delighted that Molly will be joining us as the new head of Children’s Day School,” added Matt Schwartz, board chair. “Her experience and expertise with fiscal management and project-based learning along with her powerful track record of hiring, nurturing and retaining great teachers makes her the right choice to lead Children’s Day School.”
