This week, Prestwick House's Punctuation Practice presentation from the SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations series was named winner of the Association of Educational Publisher's DAA award at the annual Educational Publishing Summit in Washington DC.
This year's contender from the SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations line is the ninth Prestwick House product to receive this award since 2006. Prestwick House products have been nominated for this distinguished award for five consecutive years.
As a part of their mission to support publishers of supplemental instructional materials, the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) boasts the longest-running recognition program in the publishing industry. According to AEP representative Stacey Pusey, "These prestigious awards grant the recipients not just the satisfaction of work deemed in highest regard by experts in the field, but the right to display the trusted Lamp of Learning logo, a 'seal of approval' that notifies customers and clients that excellence has been discovered, rewarded, and announced."
Prestwick House, the leading publisher of educational materials in the state of Delaware, has been developing products for English teachers since 1983. Over the past few years, a focus on technology in the English language arts classroom has led to the production of more e-products like SMARTBoard Presentations and Lead-Ins to Literature presentations, as well as a line of inexpensive eLessons available online for immediate download.
"Providing teachers with the tools they need to be effective in the English language arts classroom is our single most important goal," says staff writer, Daniel Reed. "Everything we create is made with teachers in mind, so it is exciting for us to see whole classes engaged and motivated to learn a concept that is typically thought of as monotonous, like punctuation."
Along with Punctuation Practice, SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations are also available for Parts of Speech, Improving Sentences, Proof Your Writing I, Proof Your Writing II, Revising Paragraphs, and Writing Descriptive and Narrative Paragraphs.
"As it relates to teaching grammar, the most exciting feature of SMARTBoard™ is that students are able to enter or move words -- correct answers, for example -- directly on the slides of presentations," says General Manager, Keith Bergstrom. "Students tend to like the interactivity of dragging punctuation into place, rearranging sentences, and revealing answers -- and teachers love the level of engagement students have in difficult-to-teach topics."
Offered in CD-ROM format, these presentations are easy to edit or print for handouts, allowing teachers to pick and choose slides and to work at their own pace. This year's nominee, Punctuation Practice, helps students understand proper punctuation through detailed practice with eight of the most common problems.
