Hidden tax fleeces inland oil producing states.

$50,000,000 Taken from Oklahomans to Combat Gulf Oil Spill

Harry Johnson, candidate for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District announced today that he will introduce legislation to exempt Oklahoma and other inland oil producing states from the soon to be raised five cents per barrel tax collected by the federal government for the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund (OSLTF). The tax is levied on oil produced or imported into the United States. Based upon Oklahoma crude oil production since enactment of the Oil Pollution Act in 1990, Johnson estimates the Tax has cost Oklahomans fifty million dollars. Perhaps Oklahoma’s Attorney General should be trying to get this back, he said. “My Grand Dad used to say that during the Great Depression, he worked for his board and boarded himself,” Johnson quipped. “That pretty well describes the spill tax and others like it - Oklahomans pays Washington for services; then have to perform the services themselves.”
