5AM Solutions selected by American College of Medical Genetics to meet virtual repository technology needs of the network

5AM Solutions, Inc., a life science technology firm, announced today that the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) has selected the company to contribute web-based applications and underlying technologies for the innovative Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (NBSTRN). The NBSTRN is a resource for investigators engaged in research related to newborn screening. Research projects utilizing the NBSTRN may include the development of new screening technologies, and studies of the course of a specific disease or development of new therapies or treatments for disorders identified through newborn screening. Such research has the potential to vastly improve health outcomes for newborns with genetic or congenital disorders. The NBSTRN is funded through a five-year contract from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of the National Institutes of Health to the ACMG. This contract is part of a broader NICHD initiative involving newborn screening-related research.

5AM Solutions, on behalf of the NBSTRN, will develop a highly secure virtual biorepository for dried bloodspots. This will be accomplished by linking existing resources virtually. 5AM Solutions, already an innovator in biospecimen management with its Biolocator solution (information), will create a highly secure system for the acquisition, storage and retrieval of data critical to quality improvement in newborn screening programs and the performance of research directly related to disorders for that may benefit greatly from early identification.
