Tidewater Direct, a web offset printing company, was granted a full FSC chain-of-custody certification for all 3 of its facilities by the Smartwood Program. Additionally, Tidewater received a certification of compliance with the Rainforest Alliance, furthering Tidewater’s recognition as a leader in socially responsible printing practices. The certifications allow Tidewater Direct and its clients to showcase the FSC and Rainforest Alliance logo when printing on paper that has been harvested sustainably, demonstrating a conscious effort to the end user of corporate citizenship.

FSC, or Forest Stewardship Council, is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Both organizations are internationally recognized for promoting responsible forest management and environmental practices.

Tidewater has long supported environmentally friendly printing practices. Tidewater operates efficiently to reduce energy consumption, and encourages its clients to reduce unnecessary packaging and transportation on a regular basis. Moreover, Tidewater Direct is responsible for recycling thousands of tons per year at each of its 3 facilities. The certifications bolster these efforts.

“End users are in concert with the environmental impact that industry can make,” says Ken Boone, President of Tidewater Direct. “The globally recognized FSC and Rainforest Alliance symbols demonstrate socially and environmentally responsible behavior, which is very positive conduct to demonstrate.” Geoffrey Eisenberg, Vice President of Operations, who is in charge of implementing and maintaining the procedures required for certification remarked, “We have a well-implemented software platform and inventory system, which really facilitated the certification. I was happy to see it go so smoothly, and quickly – literally 45 days, start to finish.”

Tidewater Direct specializes in efficient, quality web offset printing including direct mail printing, continuous forms printing, and pharmaceutical printing and folding. With 3 locations across Maryland and Iowa and a production footprint of 200,000 square feet, Tidewater is equipped to meet the tightest deadlines and highest volume print demands.
