Innovative Wiki-based platform builds upon existing Resolve Run Book Automation capabilities for automating up to 90 percent of IT/network operations center tasks

“Our ‘library’ now contains 234 Resolve RBA action tasks that positively impact workflow to contribute to a time savings of thousands of hours each year,” says Chris Smith, Senior Manager, NOC Tools and Automations, Consolidated Communications.

generationE Technologies, a global IT solution provider and recognized expert in IT service management, today announced Resolve Run Book Automation (RBA) 3.0 for Enterprise IT, a new platform release set to deliver the highest levels of automation and process efficiency to enterprise IT operations. Resolve RBA 3.0 is currently on display at IBM “Pulse Comes To You” events throughout North America and Europe.

Targeted for release in the third quarter 2010, the new release builds upon existing Resolve RBA capabilities for automating up to 90 percent of IT/network operations center (NOC) tasks, adding new features, including:

  • An enhanced user interface based upon Rich Internet Applications technology
  • Process efficiency and automation ROI dashboards
  • Mobile user interface

“These additions not only support our vision for facilitating control and management of the datacenter from anywhere at anytime, but also provide the robust, on-demand analytics that today’s enterprise IT administrators require for advancing their most critical automation goals,” says Casey Kindiger, CEO of generationE.

Resolve RBA works by allowing organizations to easily define a series of collaborative “run books,” or procedures, for automating a majority of a company’s most essential operational tasks related to event and incident response. It solves the problem of orchestrating and automating much of the manual activity that occurs between and across IT operations process domains, addressing the points of pain that organizations face in event and incident management, problem resolution, change and configuration management, and provisioning orchestration.

Resolve RBA also makes use of Wikis to centralize operational knowledge for easy sharing across the enterprise, ensuring that valuable information is no longer limited to the minds of the most senior operations staff and subject matter experts. Designed to be human-centric, the platform uniquely places automation tools in the hands of the people who are performing the manual work so that they can participate in ongoing process improvement.

Deployed throughout the globe, Resolve RBA is used by a wide range of leading IT organizations, including one of the largest global banks, and Consolidated Communications, based in Mattoon, Illinois.

“Resolve RBA benefits us the most in the areas of collaboration and workflow automation,” says Chris Smith, Senior Manager, Network Operations Center Tools and Automations for Consolidated Communications. “Our ‘library’ now contains 234 Resolve RBA action tasks that positively impact workflow to contribute to a time savings of thousands of hours each year.”

Built from the ground up to provide broad-based, enterprise-class scalability and a vendor-neutral approach to automation, Resolve RBA’s pre-packaged integrations span every key element of IT operations, including networks, servers, desktops and applications. At the same time, the platform supports three tiers of clustering—from tier-one user clustering, to orchestration clustering and execution-tier distribution clustering.

The Resolve RBA platform integrates with industry-leading IBM Tivoli products as a foundation, yet also offers IT operations platform integration with BMC, HP, CA and EMC (Smarts) solutions. It supports Java Message Service, Oracle and MySQL database environments; along with Cisco, Nortel and Juniper networking products; and Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari browsers. It is also compatible with all distributed platforms and all major mainframe and mid-range 3270 and 5250 platforms.

Resolve RBA v3.0 will be available in the third quarter, 2010. Customers can purchase and deploy Resolve RBA v2.0 now and upgrade to 3.0 at no extra charge. Pricing for Resolve RBA varies, depending upon customer environment.
