FieldTurf Becomes the First to Recycle an Artificial Turf Field

The FieldTurf field at War Memorial Stadium has been removed and recycled and replaced with the latest in turf technology; this marks yet another industry first for FieldTurf, the worldwide leader in artificial turf.

We couldn't be prouder that our surface will represent the first artificial turf field to be fully recycled

FieldTurf has set another industry first by recycling all useable parts of the artificial turf system at War Memorial Stadium in Arkansas. The field was removed and recycled after stadium officials decided to upgrade the surface to the very latest in artificial turf technology – FieldTurf Duraspine Pro. The recycled turf from War Memorial will be shredded and converted into useable materials for new artificial turf applications. This recycling innovation is consistent with FieldTurf’s long-standing commitment to the environment.

The environmental benefits of artificial grass have been well documented over the years. With over 4,000 installed artificial turf fields in North America, FieldTurf products have saved over 675 million gallons of water, 6.7 million pounds of pesticides, and have reused over 5 million tires. And after hundreds of health and safety studies, including assessments by the EPA, state of New York, and the state of California, artificial turf has been determined to be not only green but completely safe.

“We couldn’t be prouder that our surface will represent the first artificial turf field to be fully recycled,” stated War Memorial General Manager Charlie Staggs. “FieldTurf has proven to be the greenest company in the industry with the highest performing products – a combination that is very impressive. We are thrilled to be installing Duraspine Pro – it’s the best turf in the industry.”

“This is a big step forward for our company and our entire industry,” stated FieldTurf CEO Eric Daliere. “Being the first company to successfully remove and recycle a field demonstrates our leadership in the industry on environmental issues.”

FieldTurf fields are now 100% recyclable. When a FieldTurf installation finally comes to the end of its long life, it continues to help our planet. FieldTurf has also launched a “take back” program for both sports fields and landscape applications, whereby FieldTurf will provide customers with the option, in writing, that fields will be recycled at the end of their useful life when replaced with another FieldTurf system.
