Psychology Today reports that, indeed, laughter is the best medicine. It improves your job performance, reduces blood sugar levels, restores balance in your life and reduces mental stress. Says Darlene McKnight of the Institute of Wonderful Women Working for Empowerment, “that’s why you should come to the Laughter is the Best Medicine Gala: Life After Stress Gala. Laughing is good for you.” The gala is Saturday, June 19, 2010, 6pm at the Mercer County Community College Conference Center.
Very funny lady, Leighann Lord will headline the event. She appears with Ophira Eisenberg. Leighann Lord has appeared on ABC’s The View, HBO Comedy Central, Original HBO DEF Comedy All Star Jam. Ophira Eisenberg has appeared on such shows as VH-1 and Comedy Central. Hosted by Joey Novick of Comedy Works, who will present local comedic talent Baye Kemit, the event promises to prove that laughter is the best medicine.
At the gala, Just in Time awards will be presented to seven students in the greater Trenton community. Just in Time awards provide emergency assistance to minority women who are struggling to remain in health care training. In addition to the Just in Time Awards, Wonderful People awards will be presented to Debra Perez for Opening Doors, Gwendolyn Carter for Giving Back and James Floyd Community Leadership.
Laughter is the Best Medicine: Life After Stress is presented by the Institute of Wonderful Women Working for Empowerment, a nonprofit organization assisting underserved minority women to complete education in the health care field.
