PriceDoc is a win-win solution for physicians and patients

A new internet-based service is offering a “name your price” bidding portal for routine medical services, a la Priceline.com for travel, and Denver plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey R. Raval, MD FACS, says it may be a boon for patients and physicians alike in the plastic surgery arena and other cosmetic medical procedures not regularly covered by health insurance.

PriceDoc, http://www.pricedoc.com/, is a free-to-consumer website that allows people to shop for a wide variety of medical, dental and elective procedure providers who post their services and often prices for comparison shopping. Some listed medical providers post cash-saving coupons for their services, and the site features “Request Price” and “Make an Offer” options for consumers. PriceDoc also features a “Name Your Price” options where medical providers can respond with an offer to meet that price or negotiate arrangements.

PriceDoc was launched in 2009 in the Seattle area and has since expanded into the Southern California market. Plans call for the service to roll our nationwide over time.

The object of the PriceDoc website is to link cash-paying patients with doctors and medical service providers, bypassing the health insurance maze and offering doctors the ability to fill in their schedules with paying customers. The target patient is an individual or family either without health insurance or with minimal coverage, those with health savings accounts, or those with who still need medical services and are willing to pay cash. PriceDoc also acts as a clearinghouse for such elective medical procedures as Botox injections, face lifts, breast augmentation and other cosmetic procedures not normally included in health insurance coverage plans.

“This gives prospective cosmetic patients a central location on the web to compare credentials, pricing and services between a number of providers for a particular procedure in their local area,” says Dr. Raval, known as Denver’s Nose Doc. “It’s long overdue that such a service as PriceDoc extends the power of the internet to medical care, and I believe it will help patients find the right provider and it will help physicians to widen their marketing efforts and fill in gaps in the schedule.”

“PriceDoc is a win-win solution for physicians and patients,” said Glenn Safadago, CMO of PriceDoc, in a company press release. “PriceDoc helps patients who have avoided care because of the cost, find a qualified provider that’s right for them at an affordable price. Providers save money by eliminating payment delays from insurance companies and improves their cash flow by introducing new, cash-paying patients.”

PriceDoc lists a full array of dental, medical, vision, cosmetic, and mental health providers and hundreds of procedures covering these categories where patients may comparison shop or make a bid. For instance, under its “Dental” tab, consumers can find providers and prices on such things as “Aesthetic Contouring – Reshaping,” to “Braces – Adolescent Full Treatmment,” “Crown – Cap,” “X-Ray – Full Mouth,” and much more. Likewise, under the “Medical” tab, consumer can find everything from an “Allergist” to providers of “Workers Compensation” claims. The service also connects providers and consumers for weight loss and dietetic services, and such alternative health procedures as acupuncture, herbalism, massage therapy and more.

In addition to its listed medical specialists, called PriceDoc providers, PriceDoc also provides a list of local providers “that match the specialty you are searching for” with contact information as a service to website visitors.

“I can’t wait for PriceDoc to roll out in more areas and especially in Colorado,” says Dr. Raval. “This is just the type of service, I believe, that consumers are looking for and that physicians and care providers will be eager to be involved with. I know I will.”
