Illinois should be commended for setting a high FOIA standard for the rest of the nation, but in order for Illinois government to be effective and meaningful to citizens it needs the right tools
Springfield, IL (PRWEB) June 17, 2010
Despite tight budgets and limited resources, as of Jan. 1, 2010, state and local government entities in Illinois are required to improve transparency and performance in responding to requests for information from the public or media within five business days.
Adhering to this new mandate can be challenging, especially given the decline in tax revenues at the same time public information requests are on the rise, according to experts in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
“Illinois should be commended for setting a high FOIA standard for the rest of the nation, but in order for Illinois government to be effective and meaningful to citizens it needs the right tools,” said John Schloemann, vice president for the California firm that developed Public Records Tracker™, an easy-to-use web-based solution with all the functionality needed to help government meet the compliance requirements of FOIA at a low cost. A monthly subscription is just $125 per user.
In an effort to assist Illinois, Schloemann said his company, Eskel Porter Consulting, is sponsoring a free online software trial and webcast designed exclusively for state and local FOIA officers to learn how their agencies can more easily manage citizen requests, meet mandatory response timeframes, and achieve new compliance standards with Public Records Tracker™ powered by Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
The June 22 free webcast features a demonstration of the web-based FOIA management solution specifically designed to meet the State of Illinois FOIA law mandates and get agencies “FOIA compliant” in 60 days or less.
“We’re encouraging FOIA officials to register and participate in a session intended to make their lives easier and help ensure their departments can be responsive to the public and compliant with the new law,” said Schloemann.
