Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) June 19, 2010
The City of Starke cut the ribbon on their new, energy efficient wastewater treatment system on June 10, 2010. The system was retrofitted into the existing treatment plant and allows the city to recycle wastewater residuals while reducing operational costs, energy consumption and the overall carbon footprint of the facility. The new system reflects the city’s commitment to do the right thing by the environment and the community.
The system, called The Neutralizer®, will reduce labor costs and greenhouse gas emissions, improve plant efficiency and eliminate odors. BCR Environmental, a Jacksonville-based company, supplied the patented system which automates wastewater treatment and recycles biosolids into commerical fertilizer. This installation marks the fourth installation of the Neutralizer® by the company. A fifth facility is scheduled to be opened later this year.
“We chose BCR’s Neutralizer® system because we will significantly reduce energy costs and hauling costs. We can do what’s right for our budget and what is right for the environment,” says Ricky Thompson, Operations Manager for the City of Starke.
Aaron Zahn, CEO for BCR Environmental, states, “The completion of this project in the City of Starke should provide a roadmap to similar communities on how to achieve a sustainable, restorative and environmentally responsible approach to wastewater treatment. The commerical fertilizer resulting from Neutralizer® system will be used on a sod farm less than one (1) mile from the treatment plant, and the City’s energy consumption and carbon footprint will be significantly reduced.”
