According to Martindale Hubble’s website “Peer Review Rated” status is an additional level of validation for high ethical standards and professional skill displayed through an attorney’s work product and also through that lawyer’s actions. The review process occurs in stages throughout a lawyer’s career and typically happens 10 years or more after an attorney has been admitted to a state bar association. The staff of LexisNexis Martindale Hubble conducts personal interviews and confidential questionnaires are also used in the process. At times a lawyer is asked to supply professional references to assists the peer review process. All the information gathered is confidential and Martindale Hubble is continuously updated of a lawyer’s ethical standing within his or her bar association.

Super Lawyers also relies on peers and independent research in naming lawyers in each state that the magazine considers up-and-coming attorneys. Rising Stars are lawyers under the age of 40 who have been practicing 10 years or less. Super Lawyers magazine reaches 13 million readers according to its website and it is published in all 50 states. The magazine at last count named Rising Stars in 18 different states.
