Phelps Sungas of Geneva, New York is pleased to announce that Roland Penta, president of Phelps Sungas has recently attended the board of directors meeting of the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) in Washington, DC where he assumed the position of Chairman of the NPGA after having been elected as Chairman Elect in 2009. Mr. Penta will serve as Chairman of the NPGA, the propane industry's national trade organization, for one year.

Phelps Sungas of Geneva, New York is pleased to announce that Roland Penta, president of Phelps Sungas has recently attended the board of directors meeting of the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) in Washington, DC where he assumed the position of Chairman of the NPGA after having been elected as Chairman Elect in 2009. Mr. Penta will serve as Chairman of the NPGA for one year.

His responsibilities include acting as the official representative of the NPGA when meeting with affiliated organizations or other industry trade groups. Over the next year, he plans to speak at approximately 30 propane industry state and regional meetings to help promote NPGA programs in support of clean energy initiatives, including alternative fuel sources, national energy efficiency programs and policy.

Roland has been actively involved in the National Propane Gas Association since 1991 when he assumed the position of Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee. Since then he has served in various positions within the NPGA.

“I felt the need and desire to become personally involved in the NPGA in order to help ensure that the LP Gas industry could function, grow, and prosper so that we can serve our customers with the best possible products and services going forward into the 21st century. Providing valuable, timely input to governmental agencies and legislators helps us stay on the cutting edge of technology and helps us maintain the U.S. leadership position in clean energy policy and provision.”

In 2012, the propane industry will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first commercial propane installation anywhere in the world. Roland will be actively involved in the planning, preparations, and promotion of the “Propane Centennial Celebration” on both a national and local level.

The New York Propane Gas Association held a reception in Mr. Penta’s honor on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Washington, DC to recognize him as the first person elected to this position from the state of New York.

Roland Penta has been president of Phelps Sungas, Inc. since 1973. Phelps Sungas is headquartered in Geneva, N.Y., and has two other retail locations in Canandaigua and Penn Yan, N.Y. The company, founded in 1939 by Penta’s father, is a successful retail marketer of propane gas and propane appliances. It serves both residential and commercial customers across the Finger Lakes region of New York State.

Mr. Penta has been active in organizations in the Geneva, N.Y. area. He was a past president of the Phelps Rotary Club and a former chairman of the Phelps Chamber of Commerce. He served for 10 years on the Ontario County Planning Board and had a 15-year stint on the Town of Phelps Planning Board. Penta is married to Beverly and is the father of two daughters and one son. Phelps Sungas serves customers throughout the Finger Lakes region from Bath to Lake Ontario, and Batavia to Auburn.

The National Propane Gas Association was formed in 1949 as the National LP Gas Council. The NPGA is the national trade association of the propane industry. NPGA represents approximately 3,500 companies, including producers, wholesalers, transporters, and retailers of propane gas as well as the manufacturers and distributors of associated propane equipment and appliances. 50 million Americans choose propane as their energy source.
