Joint Grid and CEP Solution Enables Unprecedented Scalability with No Incremental Hardware Costs

Platform Computing, the leader in cluster, grid and cloud management software, announces a highly scalable, high performance analytics infrastructure solution developed with Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software. The solution consists of an integration of Platform’s distributed grid solution, Platform Symphony, with Sybase RAP - The Trading Edition. The companies will show a strategy back-testing demonstration built on this infrastructure in booth #2117 at the SIFMA Financial Services Technology Expo, June 22 – 24, 2010. This demo shows how the joint solution dramatically improves performance for strategy-back testing within financial services organizations. In addition, Platform’s CTO of Financial Services, David Warm, will speak at a special Sybase SIFMA seminar titled “Dealing with the Analytics Crunch, with Sybase and Platform Computing,” on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.

Key Points:

  •     Platform Computing and Sybase have collaborated on a highly scalable compute and data infrastructure solution for analytics that combines Platform Symphony grid and Sybase RAP - The Trading Edition. The solution helps organizations meet the challenges of proposed financial services industry demand for reforms, delivering more comprehensive and accurate pricing and risk analytics.
  •     The strategy back-testing demonstration to debut at SIFMA will highlight the scalability and performance gains provided by combining the Sybase Complex Event Processing (CEP) software and grid. By improving back-testing scalability and performance to handle larger test data sets - potentially terabytes of data - economically and quickly, algorithm developers can stress-test trading strategies to ensure that they will perform correctly under extreme market conditions.
  •     The Platform Symphony and Sybase RAP-Trading Edition solution provides scalability and high performance for latency sensitive calculations. These include intraday market risk and pre-trade complex product pricing, utilizing additional compute resources when needed.
  •     David Warm’s presentation will describe how Platform and Sybase technologies can scale to handle a broad range of processes such as simulations, pre-trade pricing and risk analytics, and compress completion times by up to 80 percent while maximizing utilization of existing computing resources in the data center.
