So there’s a good chance I can share a story that’s relevant to them.

The Hackney Plastic Surgery Center announced Monday that it has named Valerie Jacobs to be its new patient coordinator, a key position in the practice.

Dr. Fred Hackney, head of Center, says he is very pleased to have Ms. Jacobs on board. “She’s a real asset,” says Dr. Hackney, “I think we’re really lucky to find someone with her depth of experience.”

Ms. Jacobs has twelve years experience in the plastic and cosmetic surgery field. She was the patient coordinator for the Department of Plastic Surgery at UCLA Medical Center. Prior to that position, she served as the patient coordinator for one of the largest cosmetic surgery practice in Beverly Hills.

A patient coordinator acts as the liaison between the patient and their surgeon before and after surgery, supporting the patient through all aspects of their care. “A key part of my job is answering patient’s questions, from their first call all the way through their recovery,” says Jacobs.

Jacobs feels that her experience helps her address any concerns a patient my have about their surgery. “I’ve literally worked with thousands of patients,” she says, “So there’s a good chance I can share a story that’s relevant to them.”

Jacobs says that listening is the key to her job. “I really try to put myself in the patient’s position,” she says.
