GateWay Community College’s (GWCC) Apprenticeship Coordinator, Anna Lopez, was selected as one of 21 leaders serving at a community college to participate in the National Community College Hispanic Council (NCCHC) Leadership Fellows Program starting this June and includes participation in the 15th Annual NCCHC Leadership Symposium in September.

The NCCHC Leadership Fellows Program is geared toward preparing highly qualified Hispanic leaders and assisting them in achieving higher level positions within the community colleges. The year long program consists of various seminars that provide training in crucial areas such as crisis management, institutional effectiveness, community development, technology, culture and diversity, strategic planning, and much more.

“This program offers training that you can’t really get in the classroom,” Lopez said. “At these seminars, I will have the opportunity to learn firsthand input on actual experiences from deans and vice presidents nationwide.”

Participants will also benefit from mentoring, assistance building a professional career plan, and the opportunity to build a network of colleagues from across the country. “I want to see the similarities and differences throughout the US the strengths and challenges that are presented and how they are dealt with,” Lopez said.

Anna Lopez has been with GWCC for almost two years. She previously served as the Director of Custom Training and Education at Phoenix College for six years and began with the community colleges as an adjunct Spanish faculty at Phoenix College and Paradise Valley Community College for over four years.
