Recent research from the Driving for Better Business organisation shows that, excluding the daily work commute, a quarter of all vehicle journeys on UK roads are made for work purposes. In light of the numbers of cars on the road for business purposes, Post Office Car Insurance is encouraging drivers to check they have the necessary car insurance cover before making business trips in their own vehicles.
While company cars may have separate car insurance cover through a business policy, if trips are being undertaken in personally-owned vehicle, Post Office Car insurance reminds drivers that they may need to check their own car insurance policy carefully. Many car insurance policies do not cover business use of personal vehicles as standard.
With research stating that business drivers are between 30 and 40 per cent more likely to have a collision than private drivers, Post Office Car Insurance advises motorists to check their car insurance policy thoroughly to ensure they are covered for all eventualities.
Injury accidents are also higher for company drivers who drive more that 80 per cent of their annual mileage for work purposes, according to the study . This again highlights the importance and value of researching car insurance options thoroughly.
