Pearltrees Raises €1.3 Million ($1.6 Million) to Accelerate International Development

Pearltrees, the social web curation tool, today announced that the Company has closed a €1.3 Million ($1.6 million) round of funding from European entrepreneurs and business angel investors based in France, Switzerland, Germany and England.

Since the launch of the Pearltrees beta version in December 2009 at LeWeb in Paris, the leading-edge social curation tool has developed a strong community. “Users in Pearltrees have been growing at a rate of over 30% per month since the launch,” said Patrice Lamothe, CEO and co-founder of Pearltrees.
In order to accelerate the international development of Pearltrees, especially in the US, shareholders of the French start-up raised an additional €1.3 Million ($1.6 million), totaling €3.8 million ($4.6 million) to-date.

The Pearltrees Funding timeline is as follows:

  •     June 2008: €1 million $1.1 million
  •     June 2009: €1.5 million ($1.9 million) of which €320.000 is a State innovation grant
  •     June 2010: €1.3 million ($1.6 million)

Since last December, the growing community has pearled and organized nearly two million web pages. Pearltrees users select each others pearltrees as a way to follow the topics they care about. Everyone can now browse pearltrees created by passionate users on various subjects, including food, politics, media, arts, travel, music and countless others.
The most recent updates in Pearltrees include a feature which allows users to embed an entire pearltree on a website or within the body of a blog. Web masters or bloggers can now offer a real web tour about a particular topic to their visitors – all without leaving the blog. Pearltrees’ latest version turns any web user into a web curator.
Pearltrees plans to have incremental updates to its beta every month from July through the end of the year, with Version 1.0 to be released in Q4 of this year.
