Media for Health Announces Open Call for Writers to Support New Spanish Language Radio Drama

Birmingham based non-profit, Media for Health announced today that they are seeking scriptwriters to assist with the development of a new Spanish Language Radio Drama. This new Spanish Language Radio Drama will build on the existing edutainment programming that Media For Health currently produces.

Creative, compelling and entertaining drama

Life is a soap opera...or it could be. Media for Health will be leading a coalition of local and national partners will produce a series of 48 highly entertaining 5-minute health promotion radio dramas. In a full press release, they announced today that they are seeking writers who have a serious interest in participating in an innovative radio drama and also positively impacting Hispanic communities across the country. This health-promotion radio novela will revolve around health concerns such as obesity, tobacco use, diabetes, diet and nutrition. To apply, writers do not need to speak English.

In order to be considered for the position, scriptwriters are asked to submit the following:

1.     A plot for the radionovela (a total of 48 5-minute episodes)
2.    Characters descriptions for three to five lead characters
3.    One 5-minute script (1st script of the series)
4.    At least one character who is dealing with obesity
5.    A title for the proposed radio novella

Media for Health is requesting that deliverables submitted should demonstrate an ability to write for a Mexican immigrant listening audience, the application of Entertainment Education methods, creative, compelling and entertaining drama (conflict, humor, romance and/or suspense), three to five characters that reflect at least one positive, one negative and one transitional character, characters that do not reinforce stereotypes, quality dialogue, and plot, characters and scripts that “feel like a soap opera”.

The application process is simple. The script cover page should include the title, names of all authors, name and address, phone and fax numbers, and email address of the corresponding author. Then, subsequent pages should include only the manuscript title and page numbers.
