Uni board members met recently, in conjunction with their top tier partners, to discuss broadening the scope of their exploration and research. In an effort to increase company assets and value Uni is embarking on a vigorous strategy that will utilize the latest in state-of-the-art 3D Imaging Technology, coupled with a Seismic Inversion process, to significantly broaden their base of operations. A member of Uni’s research team had this to say at the close of the meeting, “We know that by investing in increased exploration, and by using the latest prospecting and research techniques, we will be able to locate and inaugurate a higher degree of projects in the next two years than we have in the past. We strongly feel that by using our acquired knowledge, combined with the field experience of our partners, our success rate will continue to meet or exceed current industry levels.”
3D seismic imaging is a cost-effective option that uses sound waves to help Uni’s research team determine the location of oil and gas reservoirs while appreciably diminishing the possibility of drilling dry holes. 3D seismic technology has been in use since 1967, and since then the research community has perfected its use and demonstrated its inherent value to the industry. Through the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge and data 3D seismic has helped to provide invaluable when formulating reservoir characterizations, strategizing and employing oil and gas recovery operations, and also in monitoring and keeping track of changes in reservoirs as they are developed. These processes, which can be compared to Ultrasound and MRIs that are used by the health care profession, provide 3D images of the geological formations that lie beneath the earth’s surface to depths that exceed twenty thousand feet. The application of advanced computer algorithms to this data helps to divulge even more about an area’s lithography and the reservoirs that contain the hydrocarbons sought. By applying Seismic Inversion to 3D data the porosity of the limestone can be quantified, which in turn can reveal the rate that a prospective well could produce at. Before the advent of these technologies vast reservoirs of hydrocarbons, that were considered to be too complex to exploit, had to be passed over. Now highly accurate predictions can be made, with greater certainty as to where drilling should take place, and the chances of striking pay become far greater. It is Uni’s current strategy to open new areas of operations and production utilizing these sophisticated techniques along with their years of acquired knowledge and oil-patch know-how.
