New KnowledgeWorks Web Site Focuses on Students, High School Innovation

New website and brand philosophy reinforces the organization’s student-centered focus on learning and showcases its unique approaches to high school education in the United States.

When people visit our website, we hope they will be able to see that we are committed to creating dynamic and relevant learning environments for high school students throughout the country.

KnowledgeWorks today revealed a new website and brand philosophy that reinforces the organization’s student-centered focus on learning and showcases its unique approaches to high school education in the United States.

The website, knowledgeworks.org, features video profiles of students who currently attend KnowledgeWorks high schools. The website uses video, photography and social media tools to engage readers.

KnowledgeWorks CEO Chad Wick said the rebrand and the new website reflect a decade of progress made by KnowledgeWorks to create high school innovation and expand education opportunities nationwide.

“Our focus on student learning, student achievement and long-term student success is the driving force of our work,” Wick said. “When people visit our website, we hope they will be able to see that we are committed to creating dynamic and relevant learning environments for high school students throughout the country.”

Meredith Yacso, KnowledgeWorks’ vice president of strategic thinking and chief of staff, said: “Above all, we wanted to make sure our content reflected our student-centered focus and was accessible, whether a user is a decision-maker seeking a partnership with KnowledgeWorks or a teacher at one of our schools.”

Jeanne Bernish, Knowledgeworks Web and Social Media Manager, worked with a team from Newport, Ky.-based Intrinzic Inc. to develop the website.

“The social media elements, particularly on the ‘Conversation’ page, are seamlessly integrated with the thought leadership of the organization,” Bernish said. “This puts the website conversation directly in hands of the creators of meaningful content, allowing for interaction and engagement with the vibrant slice of the social media community already focused on education.”

Wendy Vonderhaar, president of Intrinzic, said, “We are pleased to help KnowledgeWorks extend its brand online and help them bring the future to America’s high schools. We share their values of working to improve the lives of young people, so this work has been especially rewarding for us.”

KnowledgeWorks’ student-focused approach to learning evolved from its work in Ohio, where it managed one of the nation's most ambitious high school reform efforts with the Ohio High School Transformation Initiative and the development of Early College High Schools.

The effort had a positive impact on more than 50,000 students and trained more than 2,000 teachers in Ohio's most challenging school districts. School structure, teacher recruitment and support, curriculum, assessment, community involvement all were built around students. Today, that effort is being replicated nationwide through its EdWorks subsidiary.

At KnowledgeWorks’ New Tech Network subsidiary, students learn – literally – by doing. Unlike students in traditional high schools, where most teachers lecture and use textbooks as a teaching approach, teachers in New Tech high schools design rigorous, real-world projects tied to state and district standards and customize them to their location and the interests of students. The result: students who are deeply engaged in learning and develop important skills such critical thinking and collaboration.
