WPL Publishing soon will sponsor a webinar to help construction professionals understand and recognize inherent project risks. The event also will address how other parties influence the success (or potential failure) of a construction project and what it takes to actually manage for proactive success instead of trying to shift the risk to other parties.
The 90-minute webinar, entitled “Construction Risk: What It Really Is, How to Manage It and Why It Matters,” will take place Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. (EDT). To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/276fspp.
“Construction risk management” is commonly considered by the industry to be an insurance product or plan. In fact, the rest of the story is that there are far greater risks that can torpedo the success of a project and/or even put a company out of business without a single claim being filed, and it is time that construction professionals changed their thinking about the risks.
As the construction industry evolves with changing contracting methods, faster design development requirements, fast-track incremental permitting and ever-expanding owners’ expectations, the risks to owners, contractors and design professionals become greater and harder to shed.
The webinar will address the following topics:
- What “construction risk management” is and how it is more about a change in thinking versus the application of new technology, controls or contractual language.
- The risks that each party actually has regardless of contract.
- The responsibility of each stakeholder to the other parties in the project.
- Overall accountability for the results.
- What the risks are for ignoring “the rest of the story.”
- How a contractor's risk impacts an owner and designer.
- How a designer's risk impacts a contractor and owner.
- The ultimate accountability of owners and how they either exacerbate the risks or mitigate them by their actions.
Addressing webinar attendees will be Red Brick Consulting Inc. President Greg Powers, who has served as a principal of a regional construction company and provided more than a decade of construction-related consulting services. He has expertise in high-level project conflict management, complex project management and scheduling (both forward and forensic) and a deep understanding of forensic cost analysis and review. He is well-versed in estimating, scheduling, union relations, field management of staff, cost containment, change negotiations, most computer cost and scheduling systems and senior project leadership.
After the presentation, there will be an interactive 10-to-15 minute question-and-answer session addressing relevant topics.
Webinar tuition is based on location, not number of participants, so each registration site can have multiple participants for one low price. To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/276fspp.
