Terrys Fabrics report on how World Cup football is impacting the homewares industry.

As World Cup fever takes the men of Britain by storm, women meanwhile have been making hay while the sun shines and shopping until the they drop.

According to (Stoke/Stockport) based Terrys Fabrics the stores have never been busier with wives and girlfriends making the most of the fact their partners are otherwise occupied.

Enquiries for bespoke curtains have increased by 12% and interior design service requests by 15% since the start of the 2010 World Cup.

The rooms of choice for a makeover have been bedrooms, dining rooms and kitchens, with lounges being a football no go area.

Paul McGuinness, Director of Terrys Fabrics comments:

“This World Cup has really impacted on our sales enquiries in a positive way. I am not sure whether it is husbands agreeing to their wives spending as a way of getting round them in order to be able to watch the matches of their choice or whether it is simply that the wives are taking advantage of the fact their husbands are distracted by the football and making the most of the opportunity to spend some money.

“Although what I will say is that we haven’t been inundated with requests for red and white colour schemes – it seems that the ladies are choosing anything but these colours.”
