Klinge Corporation, the specialist manufacturer of transport and storage refrigeration equipment, has completed acceptance testing of their military container systems in Melbourne, Australia. Their military container systems passed a multitude of MIL-STD tests.

“Our company’s experience in providing refrigeration systems for military forces worldwide has enabled us to provide the kind of specialist equipment needed by the ADF", said Klinge Corp President Henrik Klinge.

The container systems completed several military tests at the Australian Defense Force’s state-of-the-art test facility in Melbourne, Australia. The testing regime included M14 and M1Vibration, Performance/Cooling, Ambient Temperature, Electromagnetic Compatibility/ Interference, Power, and Driving Rain Tests, among other complex tests. As part of a multi-year contract worth approximately $10,000,000, Klinge will provide a minimum of 185 refrigerated military container systems (combination of 10ft containers and 20ft containers) and 1500 collapsible food storage bins to the Australian Defense Force (ADF). Klinge Corporation President Henrik Klinge said: "Our equipment is rugged enough to withstand the rough conditions of the multitude of tests, yet easy enough for a cook or soldier to operate.” “Completion of the multitude of tests to military standards is a testament to the quality engineering and research that has made us a global leader in the design and manufacture of specialized transport refrigeration equipment,” added Mr Klinge. The 10ft System—acting as either a refrigerator or freezer—and the 20ft system—providing multi-temperature refrigeration with separate refrigerator and freezer sections—will form a vital part of the food distribution chain for the Australian Defense Force. Rugged and Reliable Design: As required by the M14 Vibration Test, the 10ft and 20ft Container Systems as well as the food storage bins were tested to show the ability to function after being subjected to a total of approximately 2000 km of second class roads, 400 km of cross country terrain and 2 passes of the rough course. The duration of the vibration test with both Container Systems tested simultaneously was approximately 10 days and covered approximately 2400 km. One of the transport configurations for the 10ft was with the shelving installed, loaded with water bottles restrained by cargo netting. One of the configurations for the 20ft Container Systems was an internal restraint system used to secure food storage bins. Additionally, the Container Systems were tested for their ability to operate and meet technical requirements when subjected to a 24 hour diurnal cycle of Category A1 and Category B2 operating temperatures. The 10ft and 20ft Container Systems were also subjected to an hour-long driving rain test that called for a severity of 200±50mm. Each nozzle was maintained at a working pressure of 250 kPa to achieve a severity that was greater than 200±50mm. The insulated containers used in all of Klinge’s refrigerated container systems are designed and tested in accordance with ISO 1496-2. Notes to Editors: Klinge Corporation is the leading provider of specialized transport refrigeration in the world and is ISO 9001 certified. Founded in 1984 as a spin-off of the Transport Refrigeration Equipment department of York International, Klinge has been producing refrigeration units at its manufacturing facilities and headquarters in York, Pennsylvania, USA (with sales offices and workshops in Denmark and Egypt) for over 25 years. The company’s customised designs offer civilian and military customers robust alternatives to standard, mass-produced refrigerated containers which often cannot meet the requirements of harsh environments or stringent testing. Klinge’s military refrigerated containers are being used by branches of the US Military and the United Nations, as well as international armed forces including Australia, Hungary, and Austria. Raytheon Polar Technical Services, Arkema, DuPont, Degussa, and Eli Lilly are just a few of the companies for which Klinge has provided commercial equipment. The company has focused heavily on research and design and engineering which has cultivated innovative new concepts in the area of specialty transport refrigeration. Klinge Corporation prides itself on providing ISO transport refrigeration container systems that are Rugged, Reliable, and Ready.
