Include Software’s Nanette Seven recently participated in the unveiling of the new Learning Gardens and landscaping at Waugh Chapel Elementary School in Odenton, MD. In April, a complete landscape overhaul was done with donated labor, materials, and landscape design.
Donations were made by the following companies:

-Nemetschek North America (Vectorworks landscape design software)
        -Live Green Landscape Associates (labor)
        -Belgard Hardscape (brick pavers)
        -Patuxent Nurseris (soil, mulch, etc.)
-Country Springs Wholesale Nurseries (plants at cost)
-PLANET, Professional Landcare Network (professional organization to which above vendors belong)

The work included installing a brick walkway and park benches, and creating six Learning Gardens, one for each grade, K-5. In addition to ornamental plantings, the gardens include fruit and vegetable plants to help provide nutritious food to less fortunate students.

With no school funds available to replace 42-year old playground equipment, a committee of parents and volunteers created a plan to raise $120,000 and improve the school’s appearance at the same time. They created a Buy A Brick campaign, selling bricks for $100 and $200, as well as park benches for $1,500. The landscaping was performed as part of this overall effort. To date, the group has reached 1/3 of its goal, and expects the new landscaping to inspire additional donations.
