A project launched earlier this month takes advantage of wall space at high traffic businesses, displaying bold, memorabilia-style paintings, in order to call attention to charity. The project, which has it's online home at LargerThanLifeArt.com, runs through November 12th (Veterans Day), after which all paintings will go to the highest bidders in an online silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction go to the USA Cares charity, which provides support for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
"This is a great project where everybody wins. Businesses upgrade their ambiance with incredible artwork, buyers get a special one of a kind piece of hand-painted work of art, and everyone becomes more aware of the needs of our veterans, and the great work that USA Cares provides," said Alex Malone, who created and manages the project.
The large 24"x36" oil paintings depict legendary athletes, musicians, and famous figures. Accompanying each painting is a 5"x7" sign that describes the project and the charity, along with a true account of how USA Cares has answered the call to help a military veteran in need. In many cases, it is with small amounts of money to help people make ends meet and feed their families, while dealing with a debilitating situation arising from their military service.
Some of the businesses that are participating in the project are Austin Sports Medicine, Mozart's Coffee on Lake Austin, and It's A Grind Coffee House in Glendale, Arizona. Some of the paintings still need to be placed. Mr. Malone stated, "The vision of the project is to build a network of wall space across the country to raise awareness through beautiful art."
