Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) July 1, 2010
The James Gray Gallery in Santa Monica is holding the opening reception for John Ridings Lee’s exhibition on Saturday, July 3 from 6-9pm. The James Gray Gallery is set to debut their second exhibition of John Ridings Lee’s paintings in Bergamot Station; the exhibition will be on display through August 1st.
Artist John Lee draws his influence from childhood memories of his family’s artwork collections. As a child he was fascinated by American Abstract Expressionist painter Helen Frankenthaler, and her technique of staining the canvas with oil paint, drenching it in color. Lee also contributes his painting style to the influence of Robert Motherwell, as well as other artists who specialized in Color Field painting, a style of abstract works that emerged in New York City in the 1940’s. Lee shows his work in various studios throughout Southern California, earning praise from art dealers and collectors. For additional information visit: http://www.johnlee.com/art/
