EJL Wireless Research Reports Global PTP Radio Shipments Declined 10.6% in 2009

NEC Microwave remains market leader, Hybrid TDM/Ethernet Radios 50% of the Market as SDH/SONET and PDH Decline.

The global point to point (PTP) radio market declined by 10.6% in 2009 to 1.24 million units, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled “Global Digital PTP Radio Market Analysis and Forecast, 2009-2014 6th Edition.” “The PTP radio market in 2009 was not immune to the financial issues impacting the wireless infrastructure market,” says founder and President, Earl Lum. EJL Wireless Research is forecasting that the PTP radio market will recover in 2010 continue to see moderate growth through 2012.

NEC Microwave managed to edge out Ericsson again for the third year in a row. “Huawei reached fifth worldwide in its second year in our market share rankings and is poised to enter the top three in by the end of 2011,” says Lum.

“Asia Pacific and India remained the drivers for the industry while hybrid TDM/Ethernet radios became the leading category in interface types ” says Lum. North America was the only region to see growth with DragonWave becoming the largest supplier.

SDH/SONET and PDH radio shipments are forecasted to decline as customers migrate to high capacity Hybrid solutions. The 60/70/80GHz radio shipments grew 46% in 2009 with BridgeWave Communications leading this emerging product segment.
