We would like to think that accurately placing our LEP students helps us make better choices about what each student needs in their instructional plan … the IPT is an important element in our coordinated instructional approach.
Austin, Texas (Vocus) July 20, 2010
Ballard & Tighe (http://www.ballard-tighe.com) shares news today that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recently released its 2010–2011 List of Approved Tests for Assessment of Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students.
In addition to Ballard & Tighe’s new tests, the previous IPT Family of Tests also remain on the list this year. “We are pleased that our new IPT English and Spanish Oral tests and Spanish Reading and Writing Tests have been approved for use in Texas. As with the previous editions of the IPT, the scoring process is easy and accurate,” says Mark Espinola, CEO of Ballard & Tighe.
Many bilingual educators in Texas – a state serving a considerable LEP population – administer the IPT to measure students’ language proficiency. “We use the IPT to assess every LEP student initially and at least every other year to assess student progress,” says Dr. Bertha Garza, director for multilingual and migrant programs for Port Arthur ISD. Like many educators in Texas, Dr. Garza relies on the IPT to appropriately measure and place LEP students. “We would like to think that accurately placing our LEP students helps us make better choices about what each student needs in their instructional plan … the IPT is an important element in our coordinated instructional approach.”
TEA’s 2010–2011 List of Approved Tests for Assessment of LEP Students is available for Texas educators on the TEA web site, at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/curriculum/biling/leptests.html. For more information about the IPT Family of Tests, visit http://www.ballard-tighe.com.
