Founded by the Reverend Cecilia Loving, God is a Brown Girl Too was created solely to provide a healing, regenerative ministry of self-love, self-esteem and self-empowerment. Unlike traditional church, participants are taught to incorporate Spirit into their lives in a practical way.
This year's retreat theme is "Awakening to Love," which will help participants gain more wisdom, peace, focus, and creativity, as well as provide an opportunity to exercise the body by movement through this sacred space, to restore the soul through meditation and prayer, and to center in the silence. According to Reverend Loving, the silent portion of the retreat is extremely powerful because it "quiets the mind, so participants can stop talking to God and start listening to what God says."
Reverend Loving says that "God is a Brown Girl Too allows all women to move beyond victimhood to victory." The 2009 Retreat "Moving From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary" helped start the process of cleansing the mind through release, restoring the heart through love, and uplifting the soul through visualization. "Awakening to Love," Rev. Loving says, "takes its participants to a completely new level of self-empowerment."
Rev. Loving is the founder of SPIRITMUV®, a non-denominational church in New York City. SPIRITMUV meets each Sunday from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. at the Unity Center of New York City, located at 213 West 58th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway.
Like SPIRITMUV, God is a Brown Girl Too is grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ, as well as similar spiritual teachings. "We are all just standing on the edge of greatness," Pastor Loving says. "God is a Brown Girl Too gives us the tools to step into it." Her book, Prayers For Those Standing on the Edge of Greatness, teaches how to make the first step in awakening to love -- by always centering in God first.
