One Girl At A Time is giving a voice to the number one issue affecting today’s teen girl – low self esteem. It is a powerful, moving and insightful look at this issue as heard through the voices of teen girls, with special guest, Monique Coleman, of High School Musical fame, sharing her views on real beauty and self esteem.
It gives girls powerful messages regarding what real beauty is all about and how girls can embrace it to feel beautiful and empowered so that the change from low self esteem to high self esteem can start to happen ….One Girl At A Time.
Bellaboo founder and creator, Snezna Kerekovic, was inspired to create the documentary as a means of trying to make change for these girls when it comes to their self esteem.
Having launched a website for teen girls, running self esteem workshops for girls, and creating the Bellaboo all natural skin care line for teen girls; Snezna is constantly connecting to these girls and hearing from them about how bad they feel. This documentary is a way to give these girls a voice on this issue that affects them so profoundly.
“With our Bellaboo Self Esteem Workshops and website we are able to directly connect with these girls. The one constant we hear all the time is how bad they feel about themselves.
“For most girls, every day is about not feeling pretty enough, thin enough, or fashionable enough. With this documentary, I wanted to be able to create some noise and make more people aware of how bad these girls feel. This is a major problem affecting young girls today and everyday.
“We see girls as young as six with body image problems. This is insane. If we don’t start to stop the rot we are going to have a whole generation of women that have major self esteem issues, which they in turn will pass down to their daughters.
“If we start to make the change when they are young, I would hope that will result in more and more empowered young women who will lead the way in media, in politics and in the school yard, to make the change. We need to move away from a one dimensional view of beauty and celebrate and embrace individuality and diversity in beauty.
“One Girl At A Time is a way to get the issue out there. I’m hoping we can start a chain reaction that will have girls sharing this with their friends. I’m hoping that every girl who watches it will be able to see that she is beautiful for who she is, she is perfect because she is who she is and that is what makes her beautiful.”
