Gary, IN (PRWEB) July 5, 2010
What would a birthday celebration be without cake? That is what the organizers of the MJFanvetion2010 said about their fan convention celebrating the life, music and humanity of Michael Jackson.
“We knew we had to have a way for fans to have a creative expression of their love for Michael. So, we decided to have fans create a birthday cake in celebration of his 52nd birthday,” said Karen Williams, managing partner of Fluid Productions, LLC, the company hosting the Fanvention. The contest, which will be judged by local chefs, will take place on Sunday, August 29 at the Radisson Hotel in Merrillville, IN. It will be just one event during the weekend long celebration from August 26 – 29 near the singer's hometown of Gary, IN.
This is the first year of the MJFanvention and organizers wanted to have a display where the community and fans could express their creativity. “The contest is really for those people who like to do cake decorating. We won’t be eating the cakes, so the judging will be focused on the creativity around the Michael Jackson birthday theme, technique, design and details of the decorations,” said Pastry Chef Bernetta Ford of Ivy Tech Community College Northwest. Ford is one of three judges for the contest. “I am so excited to see the creations.” Because the cakes will not be eaten, Ford said foam dummy cakes can be used as the base. "But if someone wants to use real cake, they are welcome."
Contestants will bring their creation to the Radisson Hotel between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. August 29. The judging will begin at 10 a.m. and the winners will be announced shortly after. Cakes will be on display until Sunday afternoon.
The entry fee for contestants is $30 and the first place winner will receive $200. The winning cake will also be featured on http://www.mjfanvention.com. website. Go to the http://www.mjfanvention.com, click on the photo of the cake for more details about contest rules.
