"We wanted to knock the socks off of our customers by creating unique gourmet coffees that you can't get anywhere else and turn them into an affordable everyday coffee" says Matt Jallo, owner/partner.

In a move to provide fresh gourmet coffee to the masses Kona Luna Coffee Company has created a new line of Kona Super Blends that combine single estate Kona coffee with other single estate coffees from around the world. In order to roast the best coffee possible Kona Luna has chosen only extra fancy beans from "more than fair" farms that practice accountability and sustainability.
Kona Luna settled upon five well known coffee producing nations for their Super Blend line of coffee beans. "We wanted to knock the socks off of our customers by creating unique gourmet coffees that you can't get anywhere else and turn them into an affordable everyday coffee" says Matt Jallo, owner/partner. The choice was easy for us, offer a unique high quality product that is reasonably priced and the customers will come to you.
Kona blends are highly debated these days with farmers saying blends need to be 50% or more while other farmers stating less than 50% is ok. Kona Luna’s response was to make coffees that were enjoyable to drink regardless of the stigma of traditional Kona blends. Jim Christian, the other partner of the business & coffee aficionado says, “We setup a poll on our Facebook page and asked our customers what they wanted in a coffee, and everything else just seemed to fall in place. They wanted great tasting coffee that no one else was making and we delivered!”
Kona Luna started the process of creating Super Blends about two years ago by experimenting with African coffee beans like Ethiopian Coffee and different Kenyan estates. This led to an eye opening conclusion that slightly blending Kona beans in small percentages does actually affect the flavor.
Pressing on, Kona Luna decided to jump continents and see if they could replicate the blending process with Colombian coffee and Brazilian coffee. South American coffee proved to be a challenge since the flavors are more intense and robust. Lowering the roasting level and adding more Kona to the mix led to the addition of three successful gourmet coffees.
